![]() ![]() Every skill has 3 upgrades, you can "equip" only one at a time, but also freely change the upgrade at any moment. In each category you need to unlock a previous skill to get the next one. Let's start with skills, there are few different categories, skills for fighting, for sneaky takedowns, wraith skills, riding skills and so on. SoW introduces a loot system and a skill system, both imho deeply flawed. At some point I gave up and just attacked with all of the warchiefs alive, which made it harder but not hard enough to not be doable, just irritating. So literally half an hour of gameplay has been thrown to the trash because of it. I got to killing the warchiefs, but after getting rid of the third one, the first and second have already been replaced by some new orcs I had completely no intel on. As an example, one of the fortresses had a chieftain and 5 warchiefs. Simple, take quest, infiltrate the fortress, do some simple task, warchief shows up, kill or dominate, quests end, you go back to the gates for another one. To kill a warchief you have to start a hunt for him, usually at the gate of the fortress. Each warchief alive adds another bonuses to the fortress making it harder to conquer, not even mentioning that you'd have to fight them during the siege. Sure you can skip some of the secrets or outposts, but those give you skill points and loot/money which turns out is super important come late game.Īnd it wouldn't be as big of a problem but the game really pads the gameplay out by introducing new orcs all the time, which feels like cheap tricks and it's especially intrusive when it comes to sieges. Problem is to complete the game you have to do all those things 5 times, as there are 5 distinct regions, each with it's own fortress. Every map has a fortress with a ruling warchief and his chieftains so there quests for those as well, with taking down the warchief being mandatory as you need to conquer all the fortresses. You can do those for easy double-kill or just hunt orcs in the wild. Of course there's a ton of orcs, and hierarchy, and infighting with quests for simple orc hunts or ambushes while two captains are fighting. There are outposts which have to be infiltrated and their leader disposed of, usually 3 on a map. There's usually around 20 secrets to find on a map, but those can be done while killing orcs or doing quests. First there are towers, which act as quick travel and also allow you to find secrets. It's the other stuff that hurts the game though. Although quests are often locked behind some arbitrary condition, those were never the problem for me as usually they'd autocomplete while doing other stuff. Story is definitely better than the first game and so are different questlines, with my favourite being about Bruz, the first orc captain you dominate in this game. I've just finished SoW with 100% completion in a little bit over 30h, just the base game though as I got it via Xbox Game Pass which doesn't include the DLCs, but truth be told I wouldn't play them anyway as I got a little bit fed up with the game. ![]() There's more story, more questlines, more orcs, more skills, more fortresses, more towers to climb and more things to find. SoW is just like it's predecessor but more, and I mean in probably every sense.
